Chetana (Educational Society) is the outcome of the movement for educational change in Maharashtra. I was holding the portfolio of Education and Cultural Affairs, between 1963 and 1972. Education is dear to my heart and I have immense faith in its power. Even at the cost of displeasing my wife, I used to repeatedly say, "Education is my first and last love". In this universe the greatest creation of God is man. It is education that bequeaths on man the power to think, act and imbibe the culture, the value system. I firmly believe that education is the most powerful instrument of completing the unfinished task of God.

Therefore, I was very pleased when I got the opportunity of shouldering the responsibility of the Department of Education of a progressive state like Maharashtra. I was glad that I could use this opportunity to mould the future generation. However it also made me introspective. I came out with a number of ideas, schemes and plans for the rising future generations, which could make Maharashtra strong. It is this churning in my mind which gave birth to the concept of educational change and a White Paper on Education. The focal point of the educational change was the student and the catalytic agent, the teacher. It envisaged experimentation, orientation to practical life, dignity of labour, productive efficiency and dynamism as the fundamental principles of universal, quality education. With the inauguration of Chetana's R. K. Institute of Management And Research on the 28th day of August, 1981, by the auspicious hands of Hon. Shri O. P. Mehra, the Governor of Maharashtra in the presence of Principal Ram Joshi, Vice Chancellor of Mumbai University, the Chetana Society forayed in the field of action learning, executive skills development and multidisciplinary skills. For the last twenty five years, CRKIMR has been a leader in business education. The quality of teaching at CRKIMR is outstanding and on par with the corporate world requirements.

The result is a rich environment for students; which offers them an opportunity for interaction with intellectual pioneers; where knowledge is constantly fed through seminars and guest lectures and interpreted in the class. Today, CRKIMR is one of the premier institutes in the field of Management and Research. Given the liberal economic environment of today, CRKIMR is rapidly expanding its Management and Research activities.
